Governor Greg Abbott issued Executive Order (GA-34) lifting the mask mandate in Texas and increasing capacity of all businesses and facilities in the state to 100 percent as of March 10th. However, initial communication from the City of Austin and Austin Public Health request that we "continue our vigilance with masking, distancing, and hand washing...[which] remain critical in our ongoing fight against COVID-19."
We have heard from MANY of you about your desire to maintain the mask and distance recommendations from the City of Austin, regardless of any changes to statewide mandates. We’ve also received MANY questions about what your rights are as a business owner and feedback about the anxiety surrounding confrontational behavior from customers who may disagree with your policies.
At this community conversation, we will speak with Rachel Luna of Luna Law about your rights to refuse service and where those end. We will also discuss who and when to call for backup, go over some de-escalation techniques and talk about what we can learn from last year’s experiences when we found ourselves in a similar situation. Consider this an opportunity to share knowledge, brainstorm new ideas, share your story and process the weight of this new challenge hefted upon us.
